A model represents a complex thing; a drawing is a way of looking at a complex thing (or a way of looking at a model of a complex thing). A drawing cuts through, to represent certain aspects of a thing so that we better understand a thing.
Consider the meaning then, for those who would propose that model will replace drawing. Given that a model is a complex thing, and a “drawing” is “a way of looking at a complex thing”, the idea of replacing drawing with model can only be remorselessly abandoned, and itself replaced by better ideas.
Environmental representations of things (models), and ways of looking at things, these are inseparable from each other. One is senseless (and can hardly exist) without the other. The way forward starts with this, and abandons the idea of replacement.
